Standard and Commonly Used APIs
OAI-PMH
tDAR maintains an Open Archives Metadata Harvesting endpoint at: (http://core.tdar.org/oai-pmh/oai). Our endpoint exposes metadata in Dublin Core and MODS formats for all tDAR records. We also expose groups of records in "sets" that correspond to existing tDAR collections.
Identify Verb: http://core.tdar.org/oai-pmh/oai?verb=Identify
If you want to explore tDAR's OAI configuration, try using the OAI Explorer.
OpenSearch
You can search for records within tDAR via Amazon's OpenSearch protocol and get data back as an RSS feed. Our OpenSearch descriptor is available via http://core.tdar.org/opensearch.xml. The following search parameters are available via OpenSearch:
- searchTerms: the search term you'd like to search with (this is a standard field for OpenSearch)
- geo:box : a latitude-longitude bounding box
- resourceType : one of the tDAR resource types. Note this parameter can be repeated, this is a custom field:
- DOCUMENT
- IMAGE
- DATASET
- GEOSPATIAL
- ONTOLOGY
- CODING_SHEET
- PROJECT
UnAPI - http://unapi.info
All of tDAR's resource pages have embedded UnAPI links.
Schema.org markup
Most tDAR pages have appropriate schema.org markup for collections, resources, people, keywords, and institutions. It is embedded in the header of the page as JSON-LD:
<script type="application/ld+json"> { "datePublished": 2016, "provider": "Society for American Archaeology", "@type": "Book", "author": "Mona Colburn", "name": "Exploring Taphonomic and Contextual Comparability in Eastern Archaic Faunal Datasets", "description": "The Eastern Archaic Faunal Working Group (EAFWG), established with funding from NSF, is preserving Archaic period faunal databases from interior portions of the Eastern Woodlands in tDAR (the Digital Archaeological Record) in order to undertake data integration at multiple scales that examines the use of aquatic resources across time and space during the Archaic. A major initial question about our existing datasets is how comparable they are taphonomically and contextually. Protocols for evaluating comparability before integrating faunal databases have been suggested by Southwestern zooarchaeologists. These protocols rely on a variety of variables related to bone condition, modification, and attrition and assess differences between intramural and extramural excavation contexts. However, modification is required to address the greater variety of animal resources and the different site contexts relevant in Eastern Woodlands archaeology. We have piloted a modified protocol, and in this poster, we report the variables selected and the results of our pilot study. We think that our approach will facilitate comparisons at multiple scales and will also be useful to other zooarchaeologists working in the Eastern Woodlands.", "publisher": "The 81st Annual Meeting of the Society for American Archaeology", "@context": "http://schema.org", "url": "http://core.tdar.org/document/404408/exploring-taphonomic-and-contextual-comparability-in-eastern-archaic-faunal-datasets" } </script>
All of our JSON-LD records are available in two different formats (a) embedded in the appropriate pages they are used from and (b) via dedicated endpoints.
