tDAR Accession Policy

Digital Antiquity will accept a wide range of digital archaeological data for the tDAR repository.  We hope to accession into tDAR digital files from archaeological investigations covering collections research, field studies of various scales and intensities, methodological and theoretical research, and data synthesis studies.  The variety of study types we anticipate for the repository is reflected in the metadata category, "Investigation Types," which includes eleven different kinds of studies (see Glossary and Metadata Categories section.)

Although we expect that most of the data contributed to tDAR will come from archaeological studies in the Americas, we do not limit contributions to this hemisphere.  In terms of digital file formats, the beta version accepts Microsoft Access databases and Excel spreadsheets, reports and other documents in PDF or plain ASCII format, and images in JPG and TIFF format.  Additional data formats will be accepted in the future.  We are exploring actively methods of providing for uploading, describing (with appropriate metadata categories), and providing access to these other digital file types in tDAR.
